What are cookies?
Pretty much any modern website today collects certain basic user information in order for it to work properly, and offer the best possible experience for its visitors. We’re no different.
The way that we do this is that we create teeny-tiny text files, known as “cookies”, that are stored in your web browser. The cookies are there so that we recognise you when you come back to the site, or to authorise other designated sites and services to recognise you for a particular purpose.
The data that’s collected from cookies is anonymous, and none of it is used by us.
We collect cookies for various reasons. One reason is to help us improve your experience of using this website. For example, the cookies we use can allow users to register to make comments on our blog section, allow us to calculate how many visitors we have – anonymously, of course – how they came to our site, and how long they stay.
We have integrated cookie collections from social media websites such as Twitter and LinkedIn. This is to make it as easy as possible for you to ‘share’, ‘Tweet’ or ‘+1’ something on this site, since you don’t have to log into your social media network of choice beforehand. Again, those cookies are used by the social media networks themselves, not by us.
We take the subject of user privacy very seriously. We don’t allow advertising cookies. The only cookies we use are the ones for site analytics, the ones for social media networks such as Twitter and LinkedIn, and to show that you’ve read and agreed to accept cookies in the first place. We believe that your experience of the site would be adversely affected if you opted out of the cookies we use.
How to turn cookies off
Most web browsers are set to accept cookies automatically. However if you’re not happy with that, you can alter alter your browser preferences to erase cookies or prevent automatic acceptance.
To switch off third-party advertising cookies, you’ll need to go to the Internet Advertising Bureau’s consumer advice site here.
By continuing to use our site, you agree to the placement of cookies on your device. If you choose not to receive our cookies, we cannot guarantee that your experience will be as fulfilling as it would otherwise be.
