Spring Cleaning

The Origins of Spring Cleaning

Some researchers trace the origin of spring cleaning to the ancient Jewish practice of thoroughly cleansing the home in anticipation of the spring-time feast of Passover, some link it to the Catholic tradition of thoroughly cleaning the church altar and everything associated with it on Maundy Thursday. In some orthodox nations, it’s traditional to clean the house thoroughly either right before or during the first week of Lent. Some think it’s just common sense!

But wherever the origins are it has taken hold in most people’s minds as something to add to their “to do” list. Whether it ever actually gets done either at all – or in the spring is another hot debated topic…

Because of the nature of England’s weather and the mess, dust, mud and dirt it creates – when the sun is finally shining again it seems like a fresh start to spring clean! Dusting all the nooks and crannies, washing skirting boards and airing all the rooms can give some people a sense of achievement. For others the mere thought of it can send a shudder through their body. Especially when you realise that there should be an Autumn clean too!

Shine can help you out with your spring or Autumn clean, whether you enjoy the process and just need a little help or want someone to do the whole thing for you. We will talk to you and find out exactly what you want and how you want it done. Taking all the stress, strain and dirt away!
